anyone catch this show tonight? i only heard a little bit here and there, but the guy didn't sound to bright. he seemed to be acting as if these ideas were anti-christian, but i see no basis for his claim. i went to his website and read up on them and saw all ten of the ideas. i will post them here:

The Georgia Guidestones

1. Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
2. Guide reproduction wisely - improving fitness and diversity.
3. Unite humanity with a living new language.
4. Rule passion - faith - tradition - and all things with tempered reason.
5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
6. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
7. Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
8. Balance personal rights with social duties.
9. Prize truth - beauty - love - seeking harmony with the infinite.
10. Be not a cancer on the earth - Leave room for nature - Leave room for Nature.

these all seem like great ideas to me. i really don't know why this guy is throwing such a hissy fit. if anyone is interested, i'd like to have a discussion on these ideas. please tell me which ones you are for or against and why, and i will do the same.

oh, i will say that i'm not sure about #3. i think getting the world to speak one language would be incredibly useful, but i don't see the need to create a NEW language. i think spanish or english would be good to teach to all children, since both are widely used. if they lived in an area where another language was spoken, they could be taught that langauge, plus english or spanish. english might be more widely spoken now, but spanish is easier for adults to learn.

i agree with you... i was listening intently last night and went straight to john conner's website to have a look at his deal... naturally he is a super-duper christian and he veiws all of this as a threat to him and his religion...

personally i am not at all convinced by his position... but then i am most assuredly NOT a christian...

#3 could be interesting... a sort of lingua franca for the world that gives no one language the advantage would seem to be a fair way of communicating... i would hate to see all languages die in order to make room for this new one...

and i believe strongly that limiting world population to 500 million would be a good thing... there are too many of us here and we are using up resources way faster than we imagine... the amount of waste we produce alone is shocking and disturbing...

i'd like to hear other people's take on this... i wonder if there are any people out there researching this idea with a positive spin to it?

I didn't hear the show last night but I'll check into it. I've heard of these stones before, though. The 10 statements sound very similar to other "New World Order" or Illuminati views. How are "they" supposed to get rid of a massive amount of the world's population? Wouldn't that mean getting rid of people like you or me (unless some readers out there are members of the elite)? Chinese is probably the most common language in the world - see below. (note - The center of the universe is not the USA - re: english or spanish as a choice to be the world's only language.)

There's no talk of "freedom" as being important in this view of reality. Sounds more like alot of issues about controling everyone.

The stones sound pretty creepy to me & are in no way as beautiful as Stonehenge or other "earth" monuments around the world (given "beauty" is one of "their" main tennents).

The percentage of the world's population that speaks English as its first language is actually declining, according to an article on the future of language, which appears in the 27 February issue of Science.

Author David Graddol of the English Company (UK) Ltd. predicts that by 2050 more people will speak Chinese, Hindi (and its close relative, Urdu) or Arabic as a first language than English.

In 1995, English was second only to Chinese as the most common language in the world, in terms of native speakers.

But, it will probably drop down to be the fourth-most-common language in 50 years, Graddol explains in his article.

Three languages that aren't near the top of the list now may be there soon. The languages growing the most rapidly are Bengali, Tamil and Malay, which are spoken in various countries in South and Southeast Asia.

In the future, more people will speak more than one language, Graddol predicts. English will often be one of those languages, but the Mandarin form of Chinese will probably be the next "must-learn" language, especially in Asia.

ok, i wrote up a letter to this guy, and i'm not quite done. i will post it when i am. as for the population thing: in less than a century, we could easily have the population to 500,000 simply by not breeding like rabbits. there is no reason this can't be done in a peaceful manner.

The current world population is 6,560,348,429. How could it get to be 500 million without killing alot of people off? I don't think reproducing less would be enough. I'm not a Christian but I still don't like the ideas proposed on those stones. The statements on those stones wouldn't be my personal top 10 commandments.

It almost seems to me that the population is and will be declining as geological and climate disasters are increasing around the world(temperature record-breakers in Europe & other places in the world, floods, hurricanes, etc...) These seem to be more frequent and extreme than they have been in the geologically recent past. Some have caused thousands of people to perish ...just a thought to ponder, 'cuz I've definately been thinking about that!

i am not a christian either, but i was raised in a VERY christian family, so i'm sure i know as much about the bible as him, and most likely, more. this guy is just grasping for straws. he goes as far as calling them satanic stones, but has no basis for such a claim. class A nut job, if you ask me.
